A mattress topper, quite simply, offers extra comfort for a peaceful sleep. Placed on top of a mattress, a mattress topper helps maintain the flexibility or firmness of the mattress. It adds an extra layer of softness and wraps your body in a cocoon of comfort. A mattress topper also helps extend the longevity of your mattress.
So what’s the difference between a regular mattress topper and the Surconfort ® mattress topper? Easy answer: there isn’t one. The Surconfort ® mattress was created by DODO® and the name is specific to DODO products.
The Surcomfort ® mattress and the mattress topper serve the same purpose, but the Surconfort product offers you an extra dash of DODO® quality.
In short, all Surconfort® mattresses are mattress toppers, but not all mattress toppers are Surconfort® mattresses!
The mattress topper adds a layer of comfort and softness to your mattress. However, it doesn’t replace the mattress protector.
That said, the mattress protector can also be used to protect the mattress topper when placed between the mattress topper and the fitted sheet.
It’s simple: opt for a mattress topper that’s the same size as your mattress. Thanks to the four elastics sewn at the corners, it adapts perfectly to the mattress and won’t move during the night.
A mattress topper is composed of a fabric envelope which is then stuffed to give it the desired shape and comfort. There are two main types of stuffing: natural or synthetic, each with different firmness, comfort and longevity characteristics.
Natural stuffing is known for its exceptional bulk, resilience and durability. Its scarcity makes it an exceptional product with a proud tradition.
The synthetic stuffing is accessible to all and allows for a comfortable mattress overlay that stays in place, while the fibers offer hypoallergenic qualities and easy maintenance.
Both natural or synthetic products have their set of qualities, so it’s important to study the characteristics of each type and make the right choice based on what you need.
The mattress topper in natural material consists of an alloy of feathers (for firmness and support) and down (for softness). Remember to shake it out while making your bed so that the stuffing is distributed evenly. The most prestigious palaces have chosen this model to offer their customers authenticity and comfort.
In keeping with our policy on animal welfare, no stuffing used in our mattress toppers comes from live animals. Our duvets and feathers come from duck and geese raised for meat, and we only collect the plumage to make our exceptional stuffing. No animal is hurt in any process linked to plucking.
These fibers are the result of advanced technological innovation and guarantee highly efficient, durable products. Their resilience and elasticity allow you to have better support throughout the night while evacuating heat as you sleep.
For people with allergies, there is a whole range of mattress toppers specially treated against dust mites. Whatever the treatment, DODO® is committed to ensuring its safety so that you can enjoy healthy, quiet nights. Treatment is applied to the stuffing or envelope, or both. DODO®’s anti-mite treatment neutralises the mites and their eggs, guaranteeing fresh cleanliness. This hypoallergenic treatment is tested under dermatological control and remains effective even after frequent washing.
For easier maintenance, we advise selecting a synthetic mattress topper since it’s easier to wash than a natural down product (which require more attention, especially in terms of drying). The synthetic mattress toppers can be machine-washed and dried. Check the label sewn onto the product for care instructions.
Anti-stain-treated fabrics repel liquids without affecting permeability. This technology allows liquids to bead and slip off the fabric’s surface.
The stuffing’s fibers are the result of several years of research and development. The Surconfort ® mattress supports body weight offering softness, resilience and elasticity over time. The more stuffing, the warmer and more comfortable the experience. We offer products with thicknesses of between 4cm and 10cm. Either way, you’ll feel as if you’re sleeping on a cloud!
The weight of a mattress topper is basically the weight of its stuffing, expressed in g/m² (grams per square meter). The higher the grammage, the thicker and denser the mattress topper.
The density of a mattress topper can be between 300g/m² and 700g/m². The higher the density, the firmer the mattress topper. However, the lower it is, the softer the mattress topper.
Choosing the firmness of a mattress topper is not the same as choosing the firmness of a mattress. The purpose of the mattress topper is to provide extra comfort or firmness, so it’s a question of personal preference.
The DODO® toppers are designed to fit the majority of fitted sheets, especially for thicknesses of 4 to 7cm. We recommend choosing a fitted sheet with a larger bonnet, especially for mattress toppers over 7cm thick (down mattress toppers and feather/memory foam).
The mattress topper adds a layer of comfort and softness to your mattress. However, it doesn’t replace the mattress protector. That said, the mattress protector can also be used to protect the mattress topper if placed between the mattress topper and the fitted sheet. Before choosing the mattress protector, make sure to check the bonnet depth.
The mattress topper is placed above the mattress. Thanks to the elastics at the four corners, the mattress topper is very easy and quick to install – just a few minutes will suffice. Simply attach it to the mattress with the elastics. If you like, you can add a fitted sheet.
